Academic Support Staff

In keeping with the mission of Five Towns College, Academic Support Services staff and faculty are dedicated to enriching learning, teaching and scholarship in all members of the collegiate community. Through the collaborative efforts of staff, faculty, and students, tutorial services are offered as one important facet of preparing prospective graduates to become ethical, literate participants in society. The primary goal of Academic Support Services at Five Towns College is to foster an environment that is conducive to scholarship and academic success.

Support programs include the Academic Support Center, the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), and the MORE Program for students who require specific accommodations to ensure academic success. The staff consists of the Director, Associate Director/Tutoring Coordinator, Coordinator of the MORE Program, and faculty and peer tutors who strive to help students improve or maintain strong grade point averages. Students are provided with the information they need to learn to set goals, manage their time, complete assignments, and perform well on tests and quizzes. Most importantly, students are encouraged to ask for assistance when needed, and as a result establish rapports with peers and faculty that contribute to improvement of academic ability.

The Tutoring Center provides the tools necessary for all students to achieve academic success. Students have access to computer stations equipped with Internet access for research purposes, tutorial programs, word processing software for writing papers, and resume writing guides for those who are ready to search for employment. Students who are enrolled in online classes at the college are able to access course materials and work on assignments. A collection of study and research materials are available for student use, as are pamphlets addressing time management skills, test-taking tips, and study strategies.

The Tutoring Center is located in Room 104B and is open to all registered Five Towns College students. Hours: M - F, 8:00 am to 4:30 PM.
