Business Management Program
The Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) degree program in Business Management with concentrations in Audio Recording Technology, Music Business and Business Management is designed for students planning to pursue careers as business management/marketing executives in the areas of record and music production, broadcasting, concert promotion, radio, television, theatre and communications, or as in traditional business fields such as banking, marketing, insurance, retail, or real estate sales. The program is intended for students who are interested in developing their business and technical expertise.
The program in Business Management includes a core curriculum of liberal arts and a broad spectrum of business courses. The emphasis of this degree program is on management, marketing and sales. The program provides pertinent and challenging educational and internship experiences so students develop awareness and understanding of business management in todays constantly changing technological and global environment.
Audio Recording Technology
The Audio Recording Technology Concentration is designed to provide students enrolled in a Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree with the business and technical expertise required to operate state-of-the-art, computer-automated audio recording equipment and manage its related facilities and equipment. Students study the theory of sound, recording electronics, engineering procedures, audio/video post-production and advanced mixing procedures in a sequence of courses designed to develop the practical and technical skills required for success in this exciting and challenging field. This concentration prepares students to pursue careers as business management/marketing executives with music production and promotional firms.
The Music Business Concentration of the Business Management Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree with the music business expertise required to pursue careers in a wide range of music-related business fields. Students study the legal, production, management, marketing and merchandising aspect of this fast changing segment of the economy. These courses will enable a student to learn how music, business and the Internet interrelate. Field internships are required prior to graduation to provide the opportunity for students to gain practical experience working in a music business organization. Students in this concentration are prepared to pursue careers as artist managers, concert promoters, music marketers and music publishers.
All business students are required to complete two internships of at least 90 hours each. Students participate in weekly seminars, maintain a journal and submit reports concerning their work experience. These on-the-job training opportunities provide a basis for networking and work experiences with professional business and entertainment organizations. The College maintains a Career Services Office which provides students with an awareness of job opportunities and helps them acquire the skills needed in searching for jobs, preparing resumes, cover letters and for interviews. Some of the internships have been with SONY, MTV, KORG, Universal Music Group, HBO, Fox News, MSG, Atlantic Records, Warner Music, CNN, and various radio, television, film, and music businesses throughout the tri-state region.
Business students may be able to find employment as Artist Managers, Business Managers, Marketing Representatives, Music Licensing Agents, Promotional Mangers, Talent Agents or Sales Representatives for businesses or music companies.
