INTERNSHIPSInternships are a vital part of the curriculum at Five Towns College. The entertainment industry is constantly changing, and Five Towns College has attempted to adapt to these changes. Many entertainment companies now hire almost exclusive internally, so the College has in turn added an internship requirement to many of our degree programs. These internship opportunities can help our students gain valuable experience in their chosen industry and get their foot in the door of potential employers. To ensure that Five Towns students are getting the most out of their internship experiences and preparing themselves for employment, the Director of Career Services teaches a semester-long class in conjunction with the students' internships. Students majoring in Audio Recording Technology, Business Management, Film/Video, and Music Business are required to complete two semesters in an Internship Program. To this end, Five Towns College is affiliated with some of the most recognized companies in the music and entertainment industry. Among them are Sony, Def Jam, J Records, Cablevision, MTV Networks, 20th Century Fox Films and more. Annual on-campus career fairs afford students the opportunity to meet and network with representatives from these and other professional organizations. JOB PLACEMENTThe primary responsibility of Career Services is to place students in a job that suits their particular interest and skill set. Students and alumni are free to peruse the library of contacts and job postings kept on file, and the Career Services staff help students prepare a resume, cover letter, and other materials related to a job search. The College has connections with many major national and local companies in many areas of the entertainment industry. FTC alumni have previously been placed in jobs at TV and radio stations, record labels, recording studios and local schools, and have participated in touring theatrical productions and community theatres. VOLUNTEER SERVICEAll students receiving a scholarship are required to perform 10 hrs. of community service per semester. Please check with Career Services regarding community service positions on campus and with non-profit organizations. WORK STUDYThe Work Study program offers students the opportunity to work in many different areas on campus. A student may be eligible for Work Study once they complete their financial aid package. They must check with Career Services and the Office of Financial Aid to determine if they are eligible for this type of financial support. |
