To this end, the Library collects print resources and multimedia, and provides connections to global information networks to anticipate and enhance the curriculum, provides a basis for open inquiry and research, and teaches students how to use the tools of scholarship. As a locus where information is gathered, organized, and prepared for redistribution, the Library provides members of the College a place for interaction, consultation, study, and reflection. The Five Towns College Library is an outstanding resource for students and faculty alike. It is utilized by other libraries and researchers from around the world seeking information on various disciplines for which it holds specialized collections. Staffed by professional librarians, the Library is a major resource for curriculum and instruction at the College. To help more students become aware of the Library’s holdings and more competent in using its resources, an Information Literacy Course is offered to all entering students. In addition, orientation visits are scheduled for many classes. The Media Center hosts a diverse selection of audio and video recordings. Nearly every style and medium of music are represented. In addition, there is an array of videos on subjects ranging from concerts and staged opera, musicals and plays to feature-length films and educational and instructional video recordings. To listen to or watch any of the recordings in the Media Center, locate the desired item in the online catalog, or ask the Media Center staff for items that have been placed on class reserve. Present your student ID or your driver’s license at the Media Center desk. Staff will retrieve the material for your in-library use. Audio and video materials do not circulate outside the Library except to faculty. Media RoomThe Media Room contains turntables, compact disc players, DVD players, and audio and video cassette players and keyboards. Students may listen up to five recordings at a time, and borrow up to two pairs of headphones for shared listening. Students may use recordings and headphones inside the Library only.
