Film/Video Division Professor and Interim Chair James Bock Shares Great News!

48 Hour Film Project

Following the July 4th weekend, Professor and Interim Chair of the Film/Video Division James Bock shared some great news:

I am proud to announce Five Towns College made some noise this weekend at the 48 Hour Film Project film festival of NYC! The Film/Video division had two groups that won awards from this sleepless, and yet rewarding celebration.

Staff: Charles Dejardin, Phillip Russell, and Michael Mercadante won The Audience Choice Award for their film, “Close Shave” in Screening Group C, and Best Supporting Actor of the festival. Their filmmaking group consisted of a number of FTC staff, Film Division Alumni as well as current students.

Students: R.K. Toman, Matt Whelon, Connor Miller, Jessica Cardoza, and recent graduate Jack Braun won Audience Choice Award for their film, “Breakaway: A Pop-Punk Musical” in Screening Group A. -Plus Honorable Mention award for Best Score, which was created by Audio Major, Nile Torres, currently attending FTC. Their group consisted entirely of current FTC students and recent FTC grads. This was a great example of collaborating with other divisions.

Both groups are amazing filmmakers! It is about getting our name out there, and competing with other schools and professionals.

Well, it sounds like Film/Video Division is doing awesome and many thanks to James Bock, MFA for his leadership and great positive vibe. Looking forward to viewing some of these projects in the fall at the new, emerging “movie nights” on the big screen!!

Thanks and congratulations to all who participated!! Go FTC F/V Team!!
