FTC Blog-March Music in Our Schools

Known mostly for St. Patrick’s Day and the coming of spring, March is also famous for being “Music in Our Schools” month.

This is something Five Towns College takes very seriously, and, of course, with a little rhythm.

Professor Dean Karahalis, conductor of the FTC Concert Band, has joined with two area high schools to participate in “Music in Our Schools” month.

On Monday, March 30, at noon in the Five Towns College’s theater, the Riverhead Charter School will enjoy the FTC Concert Band and the FTC Wind Ensemble for an exciting performance filled with some surprises, according to Professor Karahalis.

Aside from reuniting with two music education FTC alumni who both teach at the Riverhead Charter School, Kenneth Davis and Jordon Hadgeoff, the event promises to be magical and musical as well.

On Wednesday, April 1, at noon in the Five Towns College’s theater, members of the Excelsior High School band from Queens will join with the FTC Concert Band and the FTC Wind Ensemble in an “exchange” concert where both bands will perform each other’s pieces in a mass band rehearsal. Professor Karahalis will share the conducting with Excelsior’s band director, a recent FTC Music Education grad, Tyquorn Lebron. This performance should be an exciting and educational.

If you are able to attend either of these performances, your presence is most welcome!
