Newsday’s “Battle of the Bands”
Judged by Professor Briody

Five Towns College was asked to be part of the judging process for Newsday’s recent “Battle of the Bands” contest. Over 100 bands submitted video entries – each band performing one selection of “original” music. The public then had the opportunity to vote online, resulting in a group of 10 finalists – one winner to be selected by the judges.  Professor Steve Briody then visited Newsday’s offices on July 27th to be a part of the judges panel,  which consisted of the newspaper’s highly regarded entertainment writers, as well as Mike DelGuidice (Billy Joel band member).

“We had a wonderful time reviewing the finalists. I was definitely impressed with some of the polished, professionally-produced videos, but I also really enjoyed the bands who performed “live” for their video entry. It’s encouraging to see that “old school” approach still very much alive regarding Long Island’s next generation of musicians. I was honored to review and discuss the entries with the panel, and I would certainly love to do it again in the future”
