Parents & Family
Parents, guardians, and family members of current students, prospective students, or alumni are welcome to visit on our campus.
Tours of the campus may be scheduled with our Admissions Office. Our Open Houses provide an even better opportunity for someone unfamiliar with Five Towns to get know what actually takes places academically and socially at the College. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate parents, guardians, and family members in our classrooms when classes are in session.
We also wish to remind parents and guardians of enrolled students of their students’ rights as written in the federal “Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act” (FERPA). Briefly, this federal law requires the College to obtain from a student specific written authorization for the College to release or divulge information to a parent, guardian, loved one, or person unconnected with the College about that student’s academic performance, attendance, behavior, health, etc. Please become familiar with the restrictions of this law ( http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html ). The College can only provide specific student information to a parent, guardian or loved one if a Privacy Waiver has been completed and signed in front of a College official.
Also, as just a reminder, the College views each student as an adult and responsible for her/his behavior. The expectations are, therefore, that students will handle their needs on their own, not by having a parent, guardian, friend or someone else intervene on their behalf. We understand that in certain limited cases such intervention may be necessary but in most circumstances students should be able to manage their own affairs.
We have a “Parent Handbook” that is available for downloading and printing on this page. This handbook is also distributed to parents and guardians during our New Student Orientations held in August and January. The handbook addresses most of the questions you probably have about the College.
Finally, if you visit the campus without going through our Admissions Office, you must check in at the Front Office or Public Safety.
