Halloween traditions include candy costumes and discussing horror movie lingo. Well, step right up to a new Five Towns College tradition called Spooky Bingo. On Friday October 30th, the Downbeat Cafe was the place to be where students dressed in costumes and played the fun and legendary game. The event was put together by RA Natalie Allouche and RA Oliver Roach, who wanted to put on a unique event when they saw there were not many Halloween celebrations this year due to COVID-19. Allouche said, “Spooky Bingo was one of many event ideas we threw around. We decided on bingo with a Halloween twist. We wanted to host something where people could have fun and wear costumes.”
Some of the costumes were scary and retro and represented the Halloween and Friday the 13th movies. Justin Mars, a Freshman Theater Arts major, wore a costume that reminded you of who to call if there is something strange in your neighborhood! Mars said, “I wanted to go as a character that people would recognize and for Halloween; I figured Ghostbusters would be the best thing.”
People “weren’t afraid of no ghosts” on this night as everyone was ready to play bingo and start winning prizes such as gift cards and candy. Mass Comm students Kim Ramirez and Millie Twells lost the first few rounds but then their luck started to turn around. Twells, who loves the game of bingo, ended up winning a $25 gift card.
