Overview
Audio Recording Technology is a concentration of the Business Management, Mass Communication and Music Performance programs at Five Towns College. Therefore a student can earn either a B.B.A., B.S. or Mus.B. with an Audio Recording Technology concentration. That’s exciting for those who love audio! This concentration promotes a practical, hands-on style of learning that very few music producing colleges can match. Audio engineering technology professors are devoted, knowledgeable and incredibly passionate about elevating students to the next level. Most importantly, they are completely committed to their craft.
We combine industry standard analog and digital audio recording equipment with an exciting classroom environment. Plus, we have developed a truly unique philosophy centered on molding students into future leaders.
Five Towns College has launched a new Graduate Studies option leading to the Master’s in Professional Studies degree (M.P.S.) in Sound Recording Technology! This is for technologists who have completed their undergraduate studies at Five Towns College with a concentration in audio recording technology. Practical, Hands-On Audio Recording Education
Have you envisioned yourself as an Audio Engineer, Music Producer, Sound Designer, Sound FX Editor, Live Sound Engineer, Audio/Video Post-Production Engineer, Broadcast Audio Engineer, Audiobook Editor, Podcast Producer, or Audio Restoration Engineer?
Early on, the concentration’s unrivaled faculty provides expert instruction on the industry. Above all, students get a practical, hands-on experience that only Five Towns College can offer. This program will give you the tools to succeed in recording, engineering procedures, music production techniques, and audio/video post-production.
Areas of Study
Along with studying the theory of sound, you will attain the technical expertise required to operate industry-leading audio equipment and software through active, experiential participation in:

You will learn from and interact with experienced, devoted professors who are certified Pro Tools Operators and hold professional audio recording jobs off campus, bringing real-world experience and lessons to class every day.
Real World Experience
One of the most important aspects of this concentration happens away from campus. Students are required to complete two 90-hour audio recording internships. This allows you to explore the world of audio recording technology, moreover, builds confidence in your training and experience. This opportunity, to work alongside professionals, provides the groundwork for future employment as they learn to network and build essential relationships with some of the best business minds and entertainment organizations in the country, including SONY, MTV, KORG, Universal Media Group and HBO.

Professional Studios
Studio A, a professional audio recording and mixing facility, is replete with top-of-the-line equipment. Studio B is where beginner students learn multi-tracking techniques, plus signal flow and troubleshooting. Studio C houses a stunning variety of outboard equipment from world-class manufacturers. It is in that studio where audio/video students can edit stereo and 5.1 multichannel soundtracks. In addition, the Mac Lab offers individual workstations equipped with top-notch technology, such as KORG M3 Keyboards and powerful iMacs. These machines come pre-installed with the latest versions of revolutionary software. In addition, students can also use this space to sign out microphones and audio equipment for projects.

A recording and music studio for ADR/post and music productions where students of all levels work with advanced nonlinear editing systems, ADR, Foley, and sound FX recording.

Equipped with 24 individual workstations that each feature an iMac computers, students learn how to use software for composing, sampling, nonlinear recording/editing, and notation. Every computer in the Mac Lab includes the latest version of:

- Ableton Live
- Native Instruments
- Final Cut Pro
- KORG Kronos Keyboard
In addition to these jam-packed studios, you will have the ability to:
- Put your training to the test and take part in all audio events held on campus including live productions, television productions, live sound events, concerts, festivals, musicals, and play/audio events.
- Connect and work with FTC’s growing and passionate community of audio recording students.
