The Five Towns College 45th Annual Commencement Exercises are on Saturday May 18, 2019 at the Eugene Orloff Auditorium at Half Hollow Hills High School East in Dix Hills, NY.

The Class of 2019 Valedictorian is Amira Khan, a Business Management/Audio Recording Technology major and the Class of 2019 Salutatorian is Jessica Hancock, a Theatre Arts major. Two esteemed professionals who are an inspiration not only to the graduates but also to society at large will join them on stage. The College is proud to confer The Distinguished Honorary Doctorate Degrees of 2019 to Jeannel Wyclef Jean, (Doctor of Music-Mus.D.), solo superstar and founding member of the popular music group, the Fugees, and to Vanessa R. Tyler, (Doctor of Humane Letters-D.H.L.), Emmy award winning and six-time Emmy nominated Reporter/Anchor.

Five Towns College is privileged to have Wyclef Jean participate in the 2019 Commencement Exercises. Best known for his music with the hip-hop group the Fugees, the musician, writer, performer, producer, and former FTC student guided the trio to release the Billboard chart-topping album The Score in 1996. With the smash hit “Killing me Softly,” the album was certified six times platinum.

Five Towns College is also privileged to present an Honorary Doctorate to Vanessa Tyler, the Executive Producer of The Spot with Vanessa Tyler and weekend news anchor for FiOs1 – a 24-hour news operation. She was a former WPIX-TV Reporter as well and has a long-standing record of outstanding accomplishments.

Valedictorian Amira Khan will receive a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (B.B.A.) in Business Management/Audio Recording Technology. Upon graduation, Ms. Khan has a few job opportunities, including being part of a production team for a live sound company, working as a photographer for a web e-commerce company or as a production assistant at an entertainment company. Chair of the Audio Recording Technology Department, John Machado shared that, “Amira exemplifies academic excellence and her dedication led to her being the youngest Studio Manager that was ever hired at FTC. It was an absolute pleasure to have Amira as a student, and I wish her the best of luck.”

Salutatorian Jessica Hancock will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (B.F.A.) in Theatre Arts. “Jessica is a dedicated, hard-working and talented student who will go far in life. It was a delight to work with her on the end of the year play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a great way to culminate her time at Five Towns College,” says Dr. David Krasner, Theatre Arts Division Chair.

FTC students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the 45th Commencement Exercises and be a part of an awesome event that will honor the graduating seniors and other esteemed members of the College community.
