Awaken to the spring of 2018!
Spring Awakening: The Musical
Thursday April 26 – Saturday April 28 @ 7:30 pm;
Sunday April 29 @ 3 pm
A Letter From Dr. David Krasner, The Chair of Theatre Division
Spring Awakening, directed by FTC Head of Musical Theatre and Broadway actress Marie Danvers, and musically directed by Ron Land, will be superb. The Theatre Division extends a sincere invitation to all to attend this 2006 Tony Award winning and important production, aptly showing how the field of higher education merges with contemporary themes that young adults experience from generation to generation. It is a timeless show that is also serendipitously being portrayed on NBC in the new television show, Rise.
For millennials, in particular, and their families, these are unusual times when the impact of technology is so embedded into the day-to-day events of young adults. Yet, our production demonstrates consistent themes of humanity, so-called rites of passage, and sometimes controversial issues related to the lives of children, teenagers and college students.
Spring Awakening takes on these issues boldly and shares them unflinchingly with the audience. Some of the themes are light and easy, for instance friendship; and some themes dig deeply and personally, touching on subjects such as sexuality, pregnancy, age-appropriate and developmental struggles, and daily challenges of high school students.
The Theatre students at Five Towns College have mounted a terrific show, given the opportunity to hone their craft, and will educate audiences about these difficult topics. We believe that you will relate to the themes while appreciating this professional production. The music is compelling and the direction and education by our faculty are comparative to the best drama schools in the country.
And adults, you, too, please join us . . . we have experienced a very long and cold winter, but as April turns into May, the days and experiences of our youth from years ago will kindle your souls in Spring Awakening. We look forward to seeing you here!
