Farewell to an Outstanding Educator, Cinematographer &
Gentleman: Professor Sol Negrin, ASC

There have been many esteemed professionals and educators who have left their mark on Five Towns College students, faculty and staff. But, there has only been one who has truly touched the souls and impacted the growth of the Film/Video Division at FTC and that is Dr. Sol Negrin.
Known for his insightful and astute guidance and creative perspective, Sol was always a hands-on and knowledgeable educator who taught so many students with kindness and precision. Having received five Emmy nominations and four Clio Awards, he possessed adept cinematography skill and was known as a master in the industry.
He was the founding member of the Film/Video Division who attentively aided its growth while mentoring hundreds of young minds and faculty, too, to understand the intricacies of the world of cinematography. He certainly left his mark here and the institution is entirely grateful for his time, energy, efforts and enthusiastic work that contributed to the College’s growth. In fact, the College awarded him two of the highest awards that an institution of higher education could confer. In 2000, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree and in 2005, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Five Towns College will always remember this outstanding educator and cinematographer and will miss him dearly. We send our deepest condolences to his wife Betty, son, Michael, and grandchildren and family. He was a wonderful and genuine friend and will live on in our hearts and craft with great appreciation!
